Israeli police fatally shoot man at Jerusalem's holy site

Israeli police say officers shot and killed a man who allegedly tried to seize an officer’s weapons at a flashpoint Jerusalem site JERUSALEM -- Israeli police shot and killed a man who allegedly tried to steal an officer’s weapons at a flashpoint Jerusalem site late Friday, police said. The police said the slain man was 26 years old and from an Arab village in southern Israel. Authorities said the incident in Jerusalem's Old City happened when officers stopped the man for questioning outside Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, which is the third holiest shrine in Islam. Footage shared widely on social media showed Israeli police deploying heavily in the alleys and gates leading to the compound after the shooting. Scuffles broke out between police and Palestinian vendors and worshipers who spend the night praying at the mosque during the holy month of Ramadan. More than 200,000 Palestinians had gathered earlier for Friday's noon prayers at the compound and the ceremony ended without th

Reported antisemitic incidents reached all-time high in 2022, ADL says

The ADL, a leading anti-hate and anti-bias advocacy group, said in a report released in March that the organization counted 3,697 antisemitic incidents in 2022. Just days after a new report revealed antisemitic incidents reached an all-time high in 2022, a new ad campaign calling on non-Jewish people to condemn antisemitism crossed millions of Americans' TV screens. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) found antisemitic incidents increased by over 30% in 2022 compared to 2021, according to a report published last Thursday. The ADL, a leading anti-hate and anti-bias advocacy group, counted 3,697 antisemitic incidents in 2022 -- the highest total since the ADL began tabulating those incidents in 1979, according to a report the group released in March. Those incidents mark a 36% increase from the 2,717 incidents the organization tabulated during the previous year, which was at the time a historic high. Reported incidents range from harassment to vandalism and assaults on individuals. MORE

Wolff insists Mercedes won't get carried away after 'promising' signs

Image
Toto Wolff says that Mercedes will not get carried away after "promising" signs back at the factory. The team have faced a difficult start to the 2023 F1 season, with the W14 unable to match the pace of Red Bull and Aston Martin during the opening races of the campaign. However, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished ahead of both Ferraris in Saudi Arabia, and Wolff feels that the team can take positives from the event. "The progress we saw in Saudi Arabia was encouraging," Wolff explained in a preview of the upcoming Australian Grand Prix. "We maximised the package we had and scored some solid points. More importantly, we continued to learn and understand more about the W14 and our development direction. "Everyone back at base has been hard at work to turn these learnings into performance." 'Promising' signs for Mercedes This ongoing work appears to be bringing results, according to Wolff, but the Austrian insi

In the Indonesian islands, the Komodo dragon is a carnivore at the top of the food chain. Its prey consists of buffaloes, cows, deer, horses, and monkeys, among other huge species. The monkey’s seeming carelessness may have led to its capture by the Komodo dragon on the ground. It was bitten by the dragon and wailed in pain as a result. If it is other huge prey, the Komodo dragon will bite the opponent and then calmly wait for the poison to be absorbed by the victim’s body. . Hyperʋelocity Stars Teach us AƄout Black Holes and Supernoʋae

Image
Hyperʋelocity stars (HVS) certainly liʋe up to their naмe, traʋeling thousands of kiloмeters per second or a fraction of the speed of light (relatiʋistic speeds). These speed deмons are thought to Ƅe the result of galactic or Ƅlack hole мergers, gloƄular clusters kicking out мeмƄers, or Ƅinary pairs where one star is kicked out when the other goes supernoʋa. Occasionally, these stars are fast enough to escape our galaxy and (in soмe cases) take their planetary systeмs along for the ride. This could haʋe drastic iмplications for our theories of how life could Ƅe distriƄuted throughout the cosмos (aka. pansperмia theory). There are thousands of these stars in our galaxy, and tracking theм has Ƅecoмe the task of cutting-edge astroмetry мissions (like the ESA’s Gaia OƄserʋatory). In preʋious research, astronoмers suggested that these stars could Ƅe used to deterмine the мass of the Milky Way. Incredible Findings: Human Trash on Mars!

Image
All our space exploration initiatives to Mars, be it the Perseverance Mars Rover or the Mangalyaan Mars Orbiter have been desperately looking for some form of microbial life on the planet. Well, they did find something bewildering, but not life. Instead, NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover has found human trash on the red planet. While carrying out one of its regular scheduled inspections of Mars’ surface, NASA’s Perseverance rover recently spotted landing debris caught in a jagged rock. The piece of trash that the rover found was a thermal material that the American space agency used to protect the Perseverance spacecraft from extreme temperatures as it journeyed to Mars and plummeted through the Martian atmosphere. In a tweet, the team of NASA engineers handling the Perseverance said, “My team has spotted something unexpected: It’s a piece of a thermal blanket that they think may have come from my descent stage, the rocket-powered jet pack that set me down on landing day back in 2

Eyes of Possibility – Michael Morse

Image
by Michael Morse, contributing writer Eyes of Possibility I look toward the horizon and imagine sharks and poisonous jellyfish, shipwrecks and skeletons, sea monsters, chemical waste, electric eels, slave ships, oil tankers and darkness. “Isn’t it beautiful, Papa?” says Kinsley. “There’s pretty fish, and underwater sand castles, big waves and little waves, mermaids and seahorses out there!” I look toward the horizon and see things a little differently, and I gaze at my granddaughter as she holds my hand. “Why you crying, Papa?” “I’m not, just a little salt water in my eyes.” And we dive in. ___ Michael Morse , mmorsepfd@aol.com, a monthly contributor is a retired Captain with the Providence Fire Department Michael Morse spent 23 years as a firefighter/EMT with the Providence Fire Department before retiring in 2013 as Captain, Rescue Co. 5. You Need To Beat Horizon Forbidden West's Campaign To Play Burning Shores

The Horizon series is one of the more recent triple-A experiences, in PlayStation's History , and which Sony has nurtured and marketed as a system seller. While the sequel Horizon Forbidden West suffered the misfortune of being launched around the same time as the award-winning and mega-best-selling phenomenon that is Elden Ring, it doesn't mean the Game has not been a success. Far from it, Horizon Forbidden West has reportedly sold more than 10 million copies and while it is available on both PS4 and PS5, Sony is really pushing PlayStation 5 this year, and the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West expansion Burning Shores will be launching only for the current gen. But as pre-orders have started for the DLC, its developer has been making sure players are aware of certain things. Malenia Kills 10 Elden Ring Players Every Second

Malenia, Blade of Miquella, is not the final boss of Elden Ring, but she might as well be. Yesterday, Bandai Namco released an infographic confirming that Malenia is the Elden Ring boss that players have struggled against the most with 329 million attempts on her life since the Game ’s release. And according to one Redditor’s math, that number amounts to Malenia killing ten Tarnished every second. It’s not too hard to follow along with user 20mgAddy calculation. There are roughly 32 million seconds in a year, so divide 329 million attempts by 32 million, and you get a little over 10 attempts per second. And we can assume the majority of those attempts are unsuccessful, ergo a dead Tarnished. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Related: FromSoftware Is Not For Everyone Ah, but some of those attempts don’t result in a dead Tarnished and instead end with Malenia being defeated. We can work out just how many attempts result in a Tarnished victory thanks to Steam’s achiev

Online content creators learn to monetise their work

KARACHI: Nearly 150 beginners, intermediate, established, and aspiring content creator s gathered at the Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ-IBA) for the event titled as ‘Click! The Digital News Ideathon’, to learn how to monetise their content and diversify their revenue streams to sustain their platforms. The event was organised by the CEJ-IBA in collaboration with Deutsche Welle Akademie (DW). Multimedia journalist Sabah Bano Malik kicked off the event with a talk about the constant evolution of the digital landscape. CEJ Director Amber Rahim Shamsi opened the event with a call to action saying, “we need to reinvent journalism, how we gather news, where we distribute it and how we engage with audiences.” In his opening address, German Ambassador Alfred Grannas highlighted the partnership between the CEJ-IBA and DW, and encouraged participants to learn how to monetise with a caveat: “Make money- become millionaires! Just do not forget your duties as a journalist.” T

Nikola Jokic says Nuggets 'need to be concerned' after falling to Knicks for fifth loss in six games

The Denver Nuggets' win over the lowly Detroit Pistons on Thursday night did not, as it turned out, solve all their problems. The top team in the Western Conference returned to its losing ways on Saturday afternoon with a 116-110 defeat at the hands of the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Nikola Jokic, the team's best player and MVP candidate, was direct and to the point during his post Game interview: "We need to be concerned ."  With this latest defeat, the Nuggets have lost five of their last six games, and their lead for the top spot in the West is down to four games over the Sacramento Kings and Memphis Grizzlies. While they should be able to hold on over the final three weeks of the season and secure homecourt advantage through the conference finals, they are unraveling at a time when you want to start fine-tuning things for an expected deep playoff run. Part of that is almost cer

BEAUTIFUL! — Here’s what sunset looks like on the Red Planet

Is there anything мore Ƅeautiful than a sunset here on planet Earth? All those splashes of reds, oranges, and yellows dancing in the sky, warмing up eʋerything the light touches. It’s just мagical. But did you know that sunsets on other planets in our solar systeм look totally different? For exaмple, N.A.S.A’s Curiosity roʋer has just shown us all what a sunset on Mars looks like – and while it definitely isn’t as warм-looking, it sure is spectacular. What Happens on American Aircraft Carriers When a Pilot Can’t Touch Land?

Image
Excellent with all the measures taken to make it extraordinarily clear and informative. For them, Business is Business . The leap forward in Science and Technology and its application in defense is astounding. Those aircraft carrier pilots are very well trained, BEFORE they are assigned to a carrier. They have practiced the short landing on the ground, they know hot to “bolter” of they miss one of the grab-cables, so very rarely is there a bad landing.  Of course if the aircraft has been in combat and has damage, they handle that too, the best way they know how.  It isn’t often that an aircraft landing goes off the deck, they prepare for that also, but should their damaged aircraft miss the cables and can’t bolter, there is a net that can be quickly spread across the opposite end of the carrier to catch them, because it’s always possible that an aircraft took damaging enemy fire and has any number of problems getting that bird safely on the deck!  But they are very good

De'Aaron Fox sinks last-second 3-pointer to lift Kings over Bulls in latest clutch moment

The Sacramento Kings' darling status was temporarily revoked earlier this week after they got into a fracas in the closing seconds of their loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. But on Wednesday night, the positive vibes they've been riding for most of the season returned in a thrilling 117-114 win over the Chicago Bulls.  Down by 16 in the first half, the Kings came storming back to take the lead in the third quarter, and seemed to have pulled away for good after De'Aaron Fox hit a pull-up jumper to give them a six-point lead with 41 seconds remaining. As it turned out, that was not the biggest shot he would hit all night.  With 12.5 seconds left, DeMar DeRozan pulled up for a quick 3-pointer off the hand-off from Nikola Vucevic and drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key while being fouled by Harrison Barnes. The veteran then stepped to the line and calmly made the free throw to complete the rare four-
