The Indiana Pacers host the New York Knicks as NBA odds favorites tonight with both teams guaranteed to enter 2024 above .500 — but they’ll have loftier goals than that over the next four months.
The Pacers’ roadmap to the postseason centers around Tyrese Haliburton, who served up another masterclass on Thursday night, with a career-high 20 assists (and zero turnovers) in Indiana’s 120-104 win over the Chicago Bulls.
The Knicks have struggled for consistency this month, but the No.4 seed is still within reach for Tom Thibodeau’s men despite New York’s 117-108 loss to the Orlando Magic last night.

The Tyrese Haliburton hype train is hitting top speed, and no teammate is benefiting more than Myles Turner.
Turner is coming off an impressive night against the Bulls where he finished with 24 points on 8-for-12 shooting and attempted seven free throws.
That’s a positive sign of the big man’s aggression — he’s had at least seven free throws in four of past six games, going 36-for-38 in that stretch.
Most of all, Haliburton’s pick-and-roll wizardry consistently puts Turner in positions to succeed, whether that’s rolling to the rim for dunks or popping out for open triples.
He’s had 18 or more points in four of his last five outings, and he’s shooting 52% from the field this season — another nod to Haliburton’s creative spark.
The Pacers will need Turner’s rebounding just as much as his scoring against the Knicks, so I’m taking his points + rebounds prop tonight.
Turner has ended up with at least six rebounds in four of his last five contests, and he had 10 boards in three straight games at the start of December.
I see him getting plenty of touches tonight on the way to another impressive stat line.

The Pacers are showing no signs of letting up offensively, with Haliburton serving up great looks for his teammates, and both Buddy Hield and Bennedict Mathurin knocking down shots off the bench.
I see another efficient night here for Indiana, cashing in on facing a New York team that played heavy minutes against the Magic last night. A total north of 120 feels in play once again for the hosts, who’ve shot at least 50% from the field in six of their last seven games.
I can’t resist taking a Haliburton prop as well, padding this SGP with the Over on the point guard’s assists prop in what should be a great battle with Jalen Brunson.
Haliburton has had double-digit assists in 11 of his 12 outings this month, and he’s racked up 13 or more dimes in four of his last five contests, headlined by that magical 20-assist night against the Bulls on Thursday.

Knicks vs Pacers spread and Over/Under analysis
This Eastern Conference battle stands out as one of the games of the night, with the Pacers entering as slight favorites. The 3.5-point line factors in that while Indiana hasn’t dominated at home (8-7 this year), the Knicks are only 9-10 on the road.
The Pacers enter on the heels of back-to-back wins, stopping a worrying skid where they lost six out of seven games, and they’re catching New York on the second night of a back-to-back set here.
This is the first of three meetings between these teams this season, with both vying for a spot in the Top 6 in the East. The Knicks have a 7-3 edge in the past 10 meetings and have won four of the last five matchups.
The Pacers’ up-tempo style has been a recipe for high-scoring games all season. The hosts lead the league in points per game (126.1) and are allowing the second-most points.
But the line for the total has been jacked up as a result, and the Over has only been a winning ticket in four of the Pacers’ last 10 outings.
Though we got two thrillers between these teams at the back-end of last season, including a 141-136 victory for Indiana, I don’t expect a repeat of those fireworks, especially with New York’s somewhat erratic offense.
The Knicks shot 50% from the field in the loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday but made just six of their 30 3-pointers last night in Orlando.
