McDonald’s is giving away an 18-karat gold chicken nugget

The nugget, worth £1,000, has been hidden inside a random box of six Chicken McNuggets.

Yes, Ronald’s come over all Willy Wonka.

But here’s the catch (you knew there’d be a catch, didn’t you?) – you’ll need to Travel to Japan to get your hands on the gold. Because, of course, this is only happening in Japan.

The golden nugget is being offered as part of McDonald’s Japan’s promotion of its new limited edition chicken nugget dipping sauces – in Fruit Curry and Creamy Cheese. Err, yum?

The marketing campaign stars a slightly terrifying man dressed in a bright yellow suit and a mask called the Nugget Thief and, to win, customers will have to try and guess his identity by following clues left on social media.

The hunt for the golden nugget runs from 8 – 28 June and as well as mining for gold, one Twitter follower per day will win 39 days’ worth of actual Chicken McNuggets.

If you’re wondering what the significance of the no. 39 is, the Japanese pronunciation of the numbers 3 (san) and 9 (kyu) sounds like the worlds ‘thank you’.

Tl;dr: we all just need to move to Japan.

We don’t know how good your Japanese is, but here’s the promotional video anyway.
